Why Bother?
Why bother with positive forward planning? It is easier to do nothing.
It certainly is – but here is what happens with no positive forward planning.
You fall ill without appointing an attorney
- nobody can deal with your affairs
- court action is needed to appoint a guardian
- these actions can take ages
- the guardian may be someone you would not want
- the local authority (not your family) may make decisions about you
- a lot of your money is spent unnecessarily
You die with no will
- the state says who gets your property
- you don’t know who will wind things up
- it is dearer to wind things up
- it takes longer to wind things up
- someone you don’t want to may inherit
- there is no chance of saving tax
- you leave room for painful family argument.
You fall terminally ill with no Advance Health Care Directive to your doctors
- Doctors don’t know how you would have wanted to be treated
- Nobody can speak for your wishes
- Family argues over your care and treatment
- You are kept alive for a long time in a vegetative state
You make no provision for care costs and end up in care
- your house is sold to pay for care
- your children lose their inheritance
You appoint a guardian to your children but don’t provide funding
- your children are financially disadvantaged
- there is strain between guardian and children
- Your guardian gives up the appointment
You take out no family protection insurance
- your spouse and children are left with no money
- the house is repossessed after your death
You never review your pension
- you do not have enough to live on in retirement
- you have to sell your house
We can go on for pages – but we hope you have read enough to agree Positive Forward Plannng is a must for you and your family.
